Updating "Which Imported Brand Car is the Best Seller in Korea in 2020 ~ 2021 - Information"

German Car is Again Major Car at the Imported Car Market in Korea As 60.64% Share in 2021

Bents, BMW, Audi is keeping a top top position ranking in 2021. While Porsche, luxurious and expense sport car which is usually more than US $ 100,000 is steady and continuous market grow last year even 3 % share was not distinguish at the total imported car market.

 

German premium brand car have been exclusively recorded as first market share – total 187,436 cars and 60.64% at imported car market share. Thereafter Sweden and Japan car have shown as a good improving result as 5.45% and 3.91% respectively, according to data from KAIDA (Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association). Followings are top five brand which Korea have imported last year. Please refer to more detailed information of imported car brand as below.

 

△ First : Mercedes Bents – 76,152 cars (Market Share 27.58%)

△Second : BMW – 65,669 cars (Market Share 23.78%)

△ Third : Audi – 25,615 cars (Market Share 9.28%)

△ Forth : Volvo – 15.053 cars (Market Share 5.45%)

△ Fifth : Volkswagen – 14,364 cars ( Market Share 5.20%)

Even through Bents has been slightly dropped to minus 0.9% share last year comparing to that in 2020, their market share has been hesitantly keeping first position in 2021 as that in 2020. Their major competitive model is E250 selling 10,674 cars last year which have been awarded as bestselling model and E 350 MATIC and S580 4MATIC follow as 5,198 and 3,295 cars. They introduced Plug-In type Hybrid car and new electric car which could be a well competent role drawing car user’s attention.

BMW, market share by 23.78% total selling as 65,669 cars has been exceptionally  created as growing result by 12.5% grow despite most imported car have recorded as minus or no grow result last year. Their major model is Series 5 and 3 which were aggressively supported with the head-office full market supporting among German three majors. While Audi and Volkswagen were somewhat slow or backward comparing to 2020 as 0.4% and -18.5% grow. They expect they could recover the slow market this year in 2022 with price benefit and extension of warrantee period.

 Volvo has been positioning as 4th as 15,053 cars and 5.45% share. Japanese car have been damaged at the local market due to Korean strong social campaign as “ No Japanese Products”. But Honda was uniquely growing as 42.5% grow and 4,355 cars under such hard situation, even their market share is not much remarkable volume yet.
