the Gangwondo Chiaksan Mountain Hike Map and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8uKiIM5wFg&feature=youtu.be
4. Overall Mountain Explanation.
This is exceptionally steep, has many valleys,
possessing numerous fortresses and shrines, and holds myths associated with
each site. Also, the Chiaksan national park functions as a one day tour site
and weekend vacationing area around the national capital area. It has also been
developed and used as a cradle of nature education for teenagers.
Centering Birobong (Peak), the main peak at 1,288m,
Chiaksan is connected with Hoengseong-gun to the east and Wonju-si (city) to
the west. Chiaksan (Mt.) stretches from north to south and possesses numerous
peaks at over 1000m such as Birobong (Peak), Namdaebong (Peak, 1,181m), and
Maehwasan (Mt. 1,085m) successively to the north, and steep valleys between
peaks Clean blue water and green pine trees on the precipice close to the
valley form a wonderful and unforgettable sight and beautiful rocks remind of
an Oriental painting.
5. Detailed Hike Course Explanation.
This hike was principally to make
updating previous hike, 2018-05-31 Gangwondo Province Wonju City Chiaksan Mountain Hike in Korea-
Sangwonsa Temple Course which was to start through Guryeongsa Temple as
explained at the Gangwondo Chiaksan Mountain Hike Map attached herein. This
course was broadly divided with three sections as first section with highly steep
valley road, second section with steeply sloped uphill and ridge road and third
with last steeper uphill road. The first section was to start at Shinheungdong
Parking Lot and walking along with valley stream for about 20 minutes and reached
first junction mark stating as 100m to Guryeongsa Temple at right and 4.5km to
Birobong Summit and 2.2km to Seryeom Waterfall at left. I thought for a while
at the junction if I drop the Guryeongsa Temple first and continuously walking
on hiking course or I walk to Birobong Summit first and possibly drop the Guryeongsa
Temple on the way down from Birobong Summit later which could be finally decided
depend on coming back time. I took the latter and turned left at the junction
and kept walking hike road for about half an hour and found junction mark; 75m
to Seryeom Waterfall at straight and 2.7km to the Birobong at right crossing
over the bridge. I could say hike course up to here at the junction as hike
course section first, valley road so far. I walked straight for about 5 minutes
and found small and lower Seryeom waterfall which looked beautiful and cute and
good harmony with water flowing down sound as recorded at video inked above
article 3. As soon as I looked around the Waterfall, I moved up through hike
course section second uphill and bridge road and soon met so highly steep
wooden stair way and deeply sloped stone stair way for about 50 minutes struggling
and found landmark stating as 2.2km to the Summit at forward and 2.7km to Guryeongsa
Temple backward which was about middle of the complete hike course and mean I
climbed up only 500m from the Seryeom Waterfall. As I walked on the ridge road
for about a quarter minutes, I reached Sadari Byeongchanggil (Ladder Road)
which was situated very sharp ridge between so deeply sloped both valet, left
and right. Please llok the photo attached. I was continuously walking on this sloped
ridge road for about 40 minutes and reached Maldeung Bawui Observation (Horse
Back) and took a around peaks and valley pictures. But the picture was not so
clear and good due to dust level high. As I was walking up on this sloped ridge
road for about one hour, I met landmark standing at elevation at 1,1670m
altitude and stating as only 300m to the Summit which mean I ascended 2.4km
from the Seryeom Waterfall. I found snow at these area was not melted and remaining
as slippery and thought how I should do either take climbing iron or not and
decided to go on the top without the iron and tried to climb over for half an
hour more and finally touched down 1,288m Altitude Chiaksan Mountain Birobong Summit
and recorded surrounding mountain pictures and summit monument as shown at
photo and video which were a bit better than those at the Maldeung Bawui Observation
(Horse Back). As soon as I looked around the Summit, I started to downhill through
the same way as climbed this morning and met neat nature beautiful Sadari
Byeongchang Gil ( Ladder Road) and took a nice picture as see at the photo. I
finally back to the Shinheungdong Parking Lot after three and half an hour descending
from the Summit.
