Access
There is various ways to come to NPS Songchu Information Center by
means of public transportation. But I suggest you may use Subway (Line No. 3 or
6) Line connecting to local Bus line (No. 34) which you get off at subway-Gupabal
Subway Station and exit Gate 2 and get on
Bus No 34 “Green Color” and get off at Bukhansan Songchu Valley Bus Stop
taking 42 minutes for 29 bus stop passing. Please walk for 17 minutes for 1.13km
to NPS Songchu Information Center You may simply return to your original
position through reverse course as stated above.
I could estimate total
transportation as total 2 hours for one way from Seoul Express Bus Terminal Subway
Station.
4. Outline
and Summary
Along
the chain of mountains of Hanbuk-jeongmaek, stretched out to the southwest from
the watershed of Baekdu Daegan Mountain System, via Unaksan (Mt.) and Bulgoksan
(Mt.), down to the southwest, it rises high on the northeast side of Seoul,
bordering Uiryeong, and continues to Bukhansan (Mt.).
Including Jaunbong, the highest peak, there are Manjangbong
(Peak), Seoninbong (Peak) on the south, Obong (Peak) on the west. The rock
peaks are prominent and embrace beautiful valleys such as Munsadonggyegok
(Valley), Wondobonggyegok (Valley), Musugol (Valley), Obonggyegok (Valley) etc.
It has been called Geumgang in Seoul because it seems like Geumgangsan. Jawunbong
(Peak 739.5m) is a keen point all of which is made up of rocks that have been
cut and cleaned by wind and rain for ages so that they all look queer and
fantastic; a shape of a dragon that ascends to heaven, a turtle etc.
Manjangbong, the rear peak of Cheonchuksa (Temple) is a 10,000-gil (the height of
a man)-tall stone wall and the cream of the crop among the peaks of Dobongsan.
The mountain system of
Dobongsan is made up of Sapaeneungseon (Ridge), Podaeneungseon (Ridge),
Obongneungseon (Ridge), Dobongjuneungseon (main ridge) that link with Sapaesan
(Mt.) Manjangbong (Peak), Obongsan (Mt.) Uiam (Rock) as its main peaks

Detailed Course Information
I
climbed Dobongsan Jawunbong from NPS Dobongsan Information Center last April
this year, North East Seoul. But I made my mind to ascend the same Jawunbong
from NPS Songchu information, North West Seoul this time. I decided to take a
car for the transportation taking into account very fast transportation to
Songchu Area, shortcut. I parked the car at NPS Songchu Parking Lot No 2. Against
paying KRW5,000 per day and walked through small Songchu Valley village and
reached to NPS Songchu Information Center after about 20 minutes from Parking
Lot 2 and checked hiking course map at information board. There were
observation group visitors to Ecology Visit exercising before the observation
start right front of NPS Information Center as see at the Photo. I skipped the physical
exercise and took slowly start to walk and up instead. When I moved up for 5
minutes, I reached junction, either going up to 3km to Obong Peak or to Ecology
Visit Area and turned left at the junction and walked on coconut fiber mat
which was very easy and comfortable walking road. I walked this easy road for
15 minutes and met landmark stating as 1.5km to Yeoseongbong Peak and 2.7km to
Obong Peak. There was no more easy and comfortable coconut fiber mat and
instead round stone stair road. I carried on walking on the same stone stair
road for about 25 minutes and found landmark stating as 800m to Yeoseongbong
Peak and kept going up the same stone road for a quarter minutes and reached
steep sloped rocky road which I should walk under steel pipe supporting handrail.
There was no more stone stair road after the rocky road. I walked for this rocky
road and found nice view of Sapaesan Mountain at left and took a photo attached
and carried on ascending ordinary steep soil road for about 20 minutes and
found junction landmark stating as Left Jawunbong Peak - 2.9km and Obong Peak –
1.6km and Right Yeoseongbong Peak – 300m. I turned right and approached to
Yeoseongbong and found nature mysterious Yeoseongbong rock which looks like
female prudent with fur (pine tree) and walked to back side and climbed on the
rock and found so clean and beautiful Bukhansan Mountain, Three peaks and left
this so good scenery at the photo. As I walked on comparably mild ridge road
for about 40 minutes, I found Obong Observation Point and surprised to see so
close and fantastic view of Obong Peak and took a gorgeous scene at the photo. I
climbed steep inclined rocky road under steel pipe handrail and walked on rocky
road for about 10 minuyes and reached Obong Junction stating as 1.7km to
Jawunbong Summit. I just slightly waked on Obong peak and saw gorgeous picture of
Bukhansan Mountain, Three peaks and took it to the camera as attached photo
here. As I climbed on stone road and rocky road for about 50 minutes, I met Junction
landmark stating as 700m to Jawunbong Peak and turned left at the junction. I
felt I came tired and harder than before and start to move more slowly through
sloped path for about 10 minutes and took a short break and saw clear view of
Jawunbong Peak in front and Shinseondae behind. I continued to walk on the
steep sloped path for about 15 minutes more and found next Junction landmark,
300m to Jawunbong Peak and the other way 600m to Madangbawui. As I went down to
Valley from The Junction and saw splendid gorge between Jawunbong Peak and
Shinseondae Peak as you see at the photo. I moved and passed the gorgy and turned
left at the gorgy and found so steep sloped rocky road in front which I should
climb under steel pipe handrail support. I finally touched Shinseondae Peak
after about 15 minutes struggling and took around view at the photo attached. I
met Russian young man who came over at the Shinseondae Peak alone and introducing
my blogger which he could use for him as well as for his friends. I met one
more younger French man who came over there alone and looking for road to Dobongsan
Station. I hardly succeeded to explain to him in English since he could not speak
English. I must use body language and physical gesture. I returned NPS Songchu
Parking Lot 2 through same road as ascending which took 3 and half an hour.
